Photographer Andrea Modica's new book and an accompanying exhibition showcase a collection of images, including those from a horse hospital located outside Bologna, Italy. These photographs were taken around six years ago.
Among the works is a portrait of a surgeon immediately after performing emergency surgery on a horse for a gastrointestinal obstruction. The scene was described as dramatic, with the floor covered in blood and intestinal contents.
Modica used an old-style large-format 8x10 camera for this body of work, which first appeared in a book titled Theatrum Equorum.
