Kevin Pietersen has reassured the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that he will not promote betting while on duty as England’s white-ball batting coach. This commitment comes despite his recent signing of a lucrative contract as a brand ambassador for online gambling company Dafabet.
The former England batter is set to work as a mentor for Brendon McCullum’s white-ball team for around 150 days over the next 13 months, leading up to the 50-over World Cup. Pietersen announced his partnership with the Philippines-based Dafabet on Tuesday, promising "exciting collaborations and exclusive behind-the-scenes moments" on his social media platforms.
The ECB’s anti-corruption code strictly bans participants from encouraging any party to bet on cricket matches or competitions. While Pietersen will not travel to Pakistan for an upcoming tri-series, he is expected to participate fully in winter tours of Australia and South Africa, as well as all England’s domestic white-ball matches next summer.
