PM reiterates solidarity with Ukraine, discusses sanctions with Zelenskyy

The Prime Minister spoke with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine today, 10 October 2026. The Prime Minister acknowledged the recent difficult period for Ukraine and reiterated the UK's complete solidarity.

The leaders discussed the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia. The Prime Minister stated that the UK would continue to strengthen sanctions on Russia and take further action to constrain its war machine, building on new UK designations against Russian targets announced this week.

Both leaders emphasised that Russia should agree to an immediate energy ceasefire. This would involve ending strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure and attacks on Black Sea shipping, which they stated would immediately release more energy and food supplies into the global market.

The two leaders agreed to meet in person in the coming days to continue their discussions.
