US Men's National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has returned to work two months after the team's World Cup exit. Pochettino, who joined the US in 2024, finalised a contract extension in August, having initially been viewed as a short-term hire.
Pochettino's new role extends beyond on-field results, with the Argentinian taking a more prominent position in steering youth development, coaching education, and advising on professional league collaboration. He expressed a desire for the US to become "one of the most powerful countries in soccer."
The US is scheduled to play four friendlies in late September and early October against Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Canada. Pochettino also discussed the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, stating it is a top priority for his staff to contend for a gold medal.
Regarding player transfers, Pochettino offered support to Folarin Balogun, whose move to Everton reportedly fell through due to a potential fitness issue. He plans to contact Balogun to discuss the situation. Additionally, German-American defender Noahkai Banks will not feature for the US in the upcoming international window as he remains undecided about his international future.
