Mauricio Pochettino has committed his future to the United States men's national team, signing a contract extension that will see him continue as manager until 2030. The former Tottenham and Chelsea boss, who began his tenure in September 2024, guided the co-hosts to the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup, where their campaign concluded with a defeat to Belgium.

The new agreement expands Pochettino's responsibilities, with US Soccer stating that he and his coaching staff will now also "advise and support US Soccer on the broader development of the full national team pathway, youth soccer, coaching education, professional league collaboration and other technical facets."

Pochettino expressed enthusiasm for the expanded role, stating, "We are excited by the opportunity to bring all our experience and knowledge to even more areas of US Soccer while helping strengthen the pathways for players, coaches and teams across the federation." US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone praised Pochettino's impact, noting, "Mauricio has built a culture where players trust the group, trust the process and trust each other."

During the 2026 World Cup, the US topped their group with victories over Paraguay and Australia. They secured a 2-0 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina in the last 32 before a 4-1 loss to Belgium ended their tournament run.

Why this matters: Pochettino's extended contract signifies a long-term commitment to his vision for the US men's national team, potentially influencing the development of football across various levels in the country.
