Merseyside Police have launched an appeal for public assistance to identify a pensioner whose body was found in a bin bag in Stanley Park, Liverpool. The discovery was made shortly before 17:30 BST on Friday.
The woman is described as white, believed to be in her 70s, approximately 5ft 2in (1.6m) tall, of small build, and with strawberry blonde hair. She was found wearing a cerise pink Nike t-shirt.
Det Supt Rachel Wilson of Merseyside Police stated that it was "a shocking crime" and that the woman's body may have been left in the black bag at a walled garden for a number of weeks. A post-mortem examination was conducted on Saturday, but the results have been withheld for investigation reasons.
Detectives are urging anyone who may have neighbours, family members, or friends in the area whom they haven't seen or heard from for a few weeks to come forward. Missing people reports in Merseyside and elsewhere have been checked, but an identification has not yet been made. A mobile police station has been set up in Stanley Park to gather information.
