Police appeal for information 32 years after Julie Finley's murder

Merseyside Police are renewing an appeal for information regarding the murder of Julie Finley, who was found strangled in a field 32 years ago.

  • Julie Finley, 23, was found dead in a carrot field in Rainford, Merseyside, between 5 and 6 August 1994.
  • She was last seen on 5 August 1994 on Pembroke Place in Liverpool city centre, speaking to an untraced man.
  • No one has been charged with her murder despite previous appeals and forensic retesting.

Merseyside Police are urging anyone with information about the murder of Julie Finley to come forward, 32 years after her body was discovered. Ms Finley, 23, from Liverpool, was found strangled in a carrot field in Rainford, Merseyside, between the night of 5 August 1994 and the following lunchtime.

Ms Finley was last seen at approximately 22:30 BST on 5 August 1994 on Pembroke Place in Liverpool city centre. She was speaking to a man, described as being in his 20s or 30s, who has never been traced.

Despite cash rewards, Crimewatch reconstructions, and media appeals, no one has been charged in connection with her death. Det Insp Sam Davies from the force's Major Incident Team stated that the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone who may have kept quiet due to loyalty or fear to provide information.

Police have previously sought a woman named Tina, who contacted the murder investigation team shortly after Ms Finley's body was found. Tina reportedly told officers that Julie had planned to meet a taxi driver from Prescot on the night of 5 August, but Tina never re-established contact with the police.

In 2005, Merseyside Police retested forensic evidence, hoping that advances in DNA technology would help identify a suspect. However, no arrests have been made in the past 20 years.
