Detectives have concluded a review into whether Luke D'Wit, who is serving a life sentence for two murders, was a serial killer. Essex Police will not be seeking additional prosecutions against D'Wit, who was convicted in 2024 for the murders of Stephen and Carol Baxter.
The review examined the deaths of D'Wit's father and grandfather. It was initiated due to similarities between the deaths of D'Wit's father, Vernon, and the Baxters, all of whom were found dead in their armchairs.
Essex Police stated: "We have consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and at this stage we are not seeking to bring additional prosecutions against Luke D'Wit." The decision to close the investigation was made after considering the lengthy prison sentence D'Wit is already serving.
D'Wit, 37, is serving a minimum term of 37 years for poisoning Stephen, 61, and Carol Baxter, 64, with fentanyl at their West Mersea home in 2023. Police found a stash of fentanyl, prescribed to D'Wit's father, at D'Wit's residence.
