Police are appealing for the mother of a newborn baby girl, whose body was discovered on a north Wales shoreline, to contact them. A special phone line has been established by North Wales Police for this purpose.

The baby's body was found by a member of the public on the Menai Strait shoreline near Siliwen Road in Bangor, Gwynedd, on Sunday shortly before 17:00 BST.

An update on Thursday from North Wales Police stated that a post-mortem examination confirmed the newborn was a girl. It was also indicated that she may have been in the water for up to a few weeks.

Superintendent Llinos Davies from North Wales Police urged the mother not to be afraid to speak to the police, stating that a specialist would take her call directly and provide confidential support. Fiona Giraud, director of midwifery and women's services for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, also appealed to the mother to come forward last week.

Officers are also asking anyone who routinely walked in the Siliwen Road and Ashley Fields areas of Bangor between 30 August and 27 September to come forward. They are also requesting photos or videos taken around the Menai Straits shoreline in Siliwen during the same period to be uploaded to the force's major incident public portal.
