A teenager was taken to hospital after being attacked by a gang of youths in the St Enoch Centre, Glasgow, on Friday afternoon. Police Scotland confirmed the 19-year-old man was treated for his injuries.
Video shared on social media reportedly shows the young man, who was using a crutch and wearing a medical boot, being knocked to the ground and then repeatedly punched and kicked. A second person was also pushed to the ground before security staff intervened.
Officers arrived after the attackers had left, and the injured man, who was bleeding from a head wound, was initially assisted by shoppers and security staff. Police Scotland stated that an investigation is underway, with officers reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved, and are following a positive line of inquiry.
The St Enoch Centre is located within the Glasgow city centre dispersal zone, established in March to address crime and anti-social behaviour. The attack occurred days after it was confirmed that the dispersal zone powers would be extended into December.
