A new exhibition in London will showcase previously unseen drawings by Finnish artist and writer Tove Jansson, creator of the Moomin books. The exhibition, titled 'Tove Jansson and her Families', will feature over 100 exhibits, including sketches, photographs, films, and correspondence.
Opening at the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration in November, the exhibition is described as the UK’s first to focus on Jansson’s illustrations. Displays will include original art from her first published book, 'The Moomins and the Great Flood'.
Among the newly revealed material is an early draft sketch for the cover of 'Moominpappa at Sea', depicting Moominpappa with a giant shell. Tove Jansson, who died 25 years ago, wrote and illustrated the Moomin books between 1945 and 1977, selling up to 30 million copies globally.
