Professor Jason Arday has resigned from his positions at Cambridge University. This follows the university's announcement of a formal investigation into his academic qualifications and honorary appointments.
Arday's resignation comes amid scrutiny over allegations of extensive plagiarism in his doctoral thesis, completed at Liverpool John Moores University. Additionally, claims he made regarding a racist intimidation campaign, which included a severed pig's head, a masked man, and bullets, were either refuted or could not be verified when the Guardian contacted relevant parties.
His appointment as professor of sociology of education at Cambridge in 2023 was widely reported, with headlines highlighting him as the "youngest black professor" at the university. This coverage often focused on his personal story, including claims he only learned to speak at 11 and to read and write at 18.
