The property industry is beginning to see more women move into senior positions, challenging long-standing male-dominated succession plans. However, for sector-specific roles, recruitment still often draws from a talent base that has been predominantly male for generations, requiring deliberate action to change.
LRG, a company in the sector, launched its EmpowerHER programme in 2024 to support women through mentoring and development sessions. Participants in the programme indicated that sessions on confidence and assertiveness resonated most, suggesting women in property still seek permission to take up space.
The Employment Rights Act is expected to place a stronger focus on harassment and sexual harassment, potentially making employers more accountable across all sectors. LRG has also seen its gender pay gap narrow from 43.59% in 2019 to 26.40%, though it acknowledges there is still progress to be made.
