The anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19 is reportedly contributing to stock shortages of the PlayStation 5 Pro console.
Game developers Rockstar previously confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 would perform "best" on PlayStation consoles. Sony has also stated that the game will be "optimised" for the PlayStation 5 Pro, with footage from the console featured in an Extended Look showcase last month.
This has led to increased demand for the PS5 Pro, with reports of stock shortages in several countries. The console is currently unavailable through Sony's official UK store. In Australia, the PS5 Pro is reportedly sold out with no restock information, and in the USA, many retailers are out of stock, with resellers listing the console for up to $1400, significantly above its $899.99 RRP.
Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki stated last week that the PlayStation 5 is in the "latter half" of its life cycle, indicating a focus on recurring revenue rather than aggressive console sales. The release date for the PlayStation 6, which was expected next year, has reportedly been delayed due to ongoing chip shortages, with Sony yet to confirm a new date.
