A rare version of Röyksopp’s 2001 album, 'Melody A.M.', featuring artwork designed by Banksy, has been sold for £3,720 at auction. This edition of the Norwegian duo's debut album dates back to 2002, when Banksy customised 100 blank record sleeves by spray-painting them in green using a bespoke stencil.
One of these copies was sold through Wessex Auction Rooms to a local street-art collector. The collector secured the record for £3,720 after initially missing the lot and then contacting the auction house with an offer.
Auctioneer and vinyl expert Martin Hughes told BBC News that the high price was primarily due to Banksy's artwork, rather than the record's condition or Röyksopp's popularity. Another version of the album with a Banksy-drawn cover previously sold for $10,465.10 (£8,477.25) on Discogs in 2019.
