Ridley Scott has reacted to Quentin Tarantino's declaration that Scott's 2001 war film, *Black Hawk Down*, is the best movie of the 21st Century so far. Tarantino, the Oscar-winning director of *Pulp Fiction*, made the claim during a podcast discussion last year, placing it above films such as *Toy Story 3* and *Lost in Translation*.
When asked by The Times about Tarantino's assessment, Scott, speaking ahead of his new film *The Dog Stars*, joked, "I wonder what he was on, because whatever it is, I want some." When pressed on whether he agreed, Scott simply replied, "No!"
*Black Hawk Down*, which featured a large cast including Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Hardy in his debut film role, depicts the real-life efforts to rescue survivors of two shot-down Black Hawk helicopters during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu. The film was a commercial success and received Oscars for its editing and sound.
Scott also noted that his late brother, Tony Scott, had a fondness for Tarantino, and the two had collaborated on films like *Crimson Tide* and *True Romance*. Last year, Scott offered his own critique of modern cinema, describing current movies as "shit" and stating, "we're drowning in mediocrity."
