Director Ridley Scott, 88, is reportedly set to direct an adaptation of 'Treasure Island', which he claims will be his most expensive film to date. This comes as several of his recent productions have faced financial and critical disappointment.
His latest film, 'The Dog Stars', released last month, has grossed $34m worldwide in two weeks against a reported production budget of between $70m and $110m. Similarly, 'Gladiator II' in 2024 and his 2010 film 'Robin Hood' starring Russell Crowe, both costing around $250m to produce, underperformed at the box office.
Scott's last film to achieve both audience and critical success was 'The Martian' in 2015. Despite recent outcomes, studios continue to provide Scott with significant budgets and creative freedom.
