A huge HGV wagon, reportedly filled with rubbish, has been left in a layby on the A59 near BAE Systems in Samlesbury, Lancashire, for four months. Residents have described the abandoned trailer as "a complete eyesore as well as extremely dangerous."
Mark Hothersall, a resident from Mellor Brook, stated that the dumped trailer is a hazard that prevents people from walking safely on the footpath. The wagon appears to be so full of debris, including carpet, wood, bottles, and cans, that it is bulging to one side and spilling onto the closed footpath.
Mr Hothersall reported seeing pedestrians, including a family with a pram, walking in a live lane of the 50mph A59. He also noted a potential odour and oil leak from the vehicle, raising concerns about wildlife and the sewage system.
A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said the site has been made safe and they are working with Ribble Valley Borough Council and other partners to find a resolution. Ribble Valley Borough Council added that the waste will need to be removed before the vehicle can be taken away, a process that could take several days and potentially require the partial closure of the busy trunk road.
