George Russell has secured pole position for Saturday's sprint race at the Dutch Grand Prix, marking a strong start to the second half of the Formula One season. The Mercedes driver posted a powerful lap, finishing four-hundredths of a second ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris.
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli, driving for Mercedes, qualified in fifth place for the sprint. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc will start third, with Oscar Piastri in fourth. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton will begin the sprint race in sixth and seventh positions, respectively.
The Dutch Grand Prix may be hosting its final meeting on the Formula One calendar this weekend. Antonelli currently holds a 50-point lead over Ferrari's Hamilton, with Russell 59 points adrift. Norris is 91 points behind Antonelli, but McLaren has shown recent strong form, including a victory in the last round in Hungary.
Hamilton expressed confidence, stating, “It’s amazing to come out of a break and be in a scenario where we’re right in the mix with the top four teams, second in the championship.” Russell also believes he has more to offer, aiming to drive more instinctively in the upcoming races.
