Sandpapergate ranks third in Test cricket's biggest scandals poll

BBC Sport readers and a Test Match Special panel have ranked the biggest scandals in Test cricket, with the 2018 Sandpapergate incident placing third.

  • Sandpapergate, where Australian cricketers used sandpaper to alter the ball, was ranked third.
  • The forfeited Test in 2006, involving Pakistan and England, was ranked tenth.
  • The 2010 Pakistan spot-fixing scandal was ranked fifth.

The 2018 Sandpapergate scandal, which saw Australian cricketers use sandpaper to alter the ball during a Test match against South Africa in Cape Town, has been ranked as the third biggest scandal in Test cricket history.

This ranking comes from a poll conducted by Test Match Special (TMS) and BBC Sport website readers. A TMS panel selected ten notorious incidents, which readers then ranked.

The results were revealed on the TMS podcast by BBC chief cricket commentator Jonathan Agnew, former England fast bowler Steven Finn, and TMS scorer Andy Zaltzman. Other notable entries included the 2010 Pakistan spot-fixing scandal at number five and the 2006 forfeited Test between Pakistan and England at number ten.
