A major search operation is under way for a 13-year-old boy who reportedly encountered difficulties while swimming off the East Yorkshire coast. Police confirmed that emergency services were called to Hornsea at about 18:00 BST on Tuesday, 4 August 2026.
Crews from Hornsea Inshore Rescue, HM Coastguard, and Humberside Police are involved in the search. The RNLI's Bridlington all-weather lifeboat has also joined the operation. Ch Supt Phil Booker stated that specialist Police Search Advisors, along with the Marine Unit and drone pilots, have been deployed to conduct an extensive search and rescue.
HM Coastguard confirmed that crews from Bridlington, Hornsea, and Withernsea are participating, supported by a Coastguard helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft. The search is concentrated off Hornsea's South Promenade. Humberside Police have asked anyone with information to contact them and urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to work efficiently.
