Shaun Edwards, one of rugby union's most decorated coaches, has officially joined Argentina's coaching staff as defence coach. His deal extends until the conclusion of the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
This announcement puts an end to speculation regarding Edwards potentially taking a role in Steve Borthwick's England set-up. The 59-year-old will first complete his consultancy duties with England's women's team before linking up with Felipe Contepomi's staff.
Edwards expressed his delight, stating, "I'm delighted to join Felipe Contepomi, his coaching staff and the Argentina rugby team at the end of this month until the World Cup next year in Australia." He added, "I've always admired the ability and quality of Argentine players and I hope to bring some of my international experience to the team during the next year."
Edwards, who previously left his position as France men's defence coach after helping them secure three Six Nations titles, will begin work with the Pumas at the end of October alongside former Argentina head coach Mario Ledesma, who will oversee the forwards. Argentina is scheduled to play Ireland, Italy, and France in Nations Championship matches in November.
