Midfielder Shea Charles has become Northern Ireland's most expensive player after completing a £30m transfer from Southampton to Premier League side Fulham. The 22-year-old's move marks a significant step in his career, five years after coaches first noted his exceptional talent on the ball.

Charles joined Manchester City's academy at seven and progressed through their ranks, helping them win the Premier League 2 title in the 2021-22 season. He made his international debut for Northern Ireland in June 2022 before making a senior club appearance, and has since become a key player for manager Michael O'Neill, earning 35 caps.

After a Premier League debut for Manchester City in May 2023, Charles signed a four-year contract with Southampton. He made 32 appearances as the Saints secured promotion back to the Premier League, and also had a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, where he became a fan favourite.

Last season, Charles returned to St Mary's, contributing six goals, including a winner against Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-finals and a goal against Liverpool in the EFL Cup. He will now play under former Real Madrid and Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa at Craven Cottage.
