Golf fans are gearing up for the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup, which will see Europe battle the United States from 11-13 September. The prestigious women's team competition will be held at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.
Europe, under the new leadership of captain Anna Nordqvist, will be looking to regain the trophy after their 15½-12½ defeat in Virginia two years ago. The United States will be captained by Angela Stanford, who has previously served as an assistant captain three times.
The format includes 28 matchplay matches over three days, comprising foursomes, fourballs, and singles. Each match is worth one point, with half a point awarded for a tie. The first team to reach 14½ points will win the Solheim Cup outright. As current holders, the US would retain the trophy in the event of a 14-14 draw.
The European team features English players Lottie Woad and Charley Hull, among eight automatic qualifiers. The US team includes current world number one Nelly Korda, a two-time major champion this season. Temperatures are expected to peak around 21C, with a strong likelihood of showers and breezy conditions adding a layer of difficulty to the heathland course.
