After declaring their second innings on 316-5, setting Leicestershire a target of 523, Somerset needed just 45.1 overs to secure the 22-point win. New Zealand Test batter Henry Nicholls reached his maiden Championship hundred before the declaration.
Leicestershire were bowled out for 145, marking their biggest defeat by Somerset and the fourth largest by runs in the county's history. Craig Overton was a key performer, taking 4-33 and bringing his season's wicket count to 49.
This result, Somerset's third win in four matches, does not extend their five-point lead over Warwickshire, who also secured an innings victory against Glamorgan. Somerset's title aspirations now depend on upcoming fixtures against Yorkshire at Headingley and Surrey at Taunton.
