Britain's Sonay Kartal has secured a spot in the Wuhan Open quarter-finals, marking another significant step in her comeback from a long-term injury. The 24-year-old comfortably beat former Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini in straight sets, 6-2 6-0.

Kartal, who missed over six months with a stress fracture in her back, has now won five of her seven matches since her return. This victory follows her straight-set win against ninth seed Belinda Bencic in the previous round, further demonstrating her strong form.

Reflecting on her performance, Kartal stated, "Against someone as good as Jasmine is, I knew I had to be solid from the start and not let up. From my side, it was a pretty flawless performance." She will now face Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, a four-time Grand Slam semi-finalist, in the next round.
