Voters in South Carolina are participating in a special primary election today to select a Republican candidate for the US Senate. The election aims to find a replacement for the late US Senator Lindsey Graham, who died last month.
Ten candidates are on the ballot, including Darline Graham, who was appointed interim senator by Governor Henry McMaster following her brother's death on 11 July. She also has the endorsement of Donald Trump.
Campaigning has been condensed into approximately two weeks. Polling suggests that a runoff election between the top two candidates on 25 August is the most probable outcome, as no single candidate is expected to win an overall majority today.
The winner of the Republican primary will face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews in the general election in November.
