Oliver Glasner's tenure as Nottingham Forest's fifth head coach in less than 12 months began with a defeat as Anton Stach's late free-kick secured a win for Leeds. Stach's whipped effort found the net past Matz Sels with only a couple of minutes of normal time remaining, following a challenge by Nikola Milenkovic on the edge of the box.
Leeds appeared the more threatening side throughout the match. Harry Wilson had a debut goal disallowed for offside in the first half, while Tarik Muharemovic, a £34m signing, saw a header saved by Sels in the second. Glasner did not include new arrivals Ousmane Diomande or Xaver Schlager in his starting lineup.
Despite the disappointing start for Forest, they will have an immediate chance for a rematch against Leeds in a Carabao Cup fixture scheduled for Tuesday.
