A stage adaptation of the 1985 film "Letter to Brezhnev" has premiered at the Royal Court in Liverpool. The production, which opened on 18 September 2026, closely follows Frank Clarke's original screenplay, with some added jokes.

Ellie Clayton plays Elaine, the Kirkby girl who seeks escape and love with a Russian sailor, while Angela Simms portrays Teresa, Elaine's friend. Nicole Behan directs the production, which features a multi-level set designed by Mark Walters and lighting by Ian Scott.

The show incorporates a soundtrack of 70s and 80s hits, with live vocals mixed in by musical director Rob Green. Cast members from the original film were reportedly in the first-night audience.
