Filmmaker Zack Snyder has put forward a proposal to adapt Frank Miller's classic graphic novel, 'The Dark Knight Returns', for cinemas. Snyder has been discussing this idea for several years, according to an interview with Variety.
He envisions adapting Miller's 1986 story, which features an ageing Batman emerging from retirement in a dystopian Gotham. Snyder stated that 'The Dark Knight Returns' alongside 'Watchmen' would represent "the complete cycle of the superhero comic book medium."
This proposal comes despite DC Studios already having two Batman projects in progress. These include Robert Pattinson's version, with 'The Batman Part II' underway, and a new Dark Knight set to appear in 'The Brave and the Bold', with Andy Muschietti attached as director.
The possibility of a third Caped Crusader film is considered unlikely, though the article notes that unexpected events, such as the release of Snyder's four-hour version of 'Justice League', have occurred previously.
