Sunrisers Leeds have taken a significant stride towards The Hundred's knockout stages, delivering a comprehensive 71-run defeat to Welsh Fire at Headingley. The Sunrisers posted a formidable 201-4, with Mitch Marsh, the tournament's leading run-scorer, hitting his fourth half-century of the season.
Marsh, an Australian opener, struck 50 from 34 balls and formed an 89-run opening partnership with Ryan Rickelton. Captain Zak Crawley also contributed with a quickfire 34 from 12 balls, including four sixes, as Sunrisers pressed on.
In reply, fifth-placed Welsh Fire struggled to keep pace with the required run-rate, closing on 130-6. Matt Short top-scored for Fire with 43, while Brydon Carse claimed three wickets for Sunrisers.
Sunrisers Leeds, now in second place, only need to avoid defeat against Manchester Super Giants on Tuesday to secure their progression. A victory could also put them in contention for top spot, should leaders Trent Rockets lose their match against Southern Brave on Monday.
Welsh Fire, currently the lowest-placed of three teams on 16 points, will likely need a win against London Spirit on Wednesday and a favourable net run-rate to secure a knockout spot.
