Sweden's Social Democratic leader, Magdalena Andersson, has confirmed the collapse of talks to form a left-wing coalition government. The announcement follows the country's general election on 13 September.
Ms Andersson stated, "Based on the discussions I have had, I can conclude overall that there is currently no possibility for me to form a government." This declaration comes as the new parliament convenes for its inaugural session today.
The failure of the talks was reportedly linked by Andersson to the Left Party's apparent endorsement of the centre-right incumbent, Andreas Norlén, for the position of speaker.
