Dominik Szoboszlai's 99th-minute penalty equaliser salvaged a dramatic 2-2 draw for Liverpool at St James' Park, preventing Newcastle United's new manager Matthias Jaissle from securing a victory in his Premier League debut.

Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for Newcastle, coolly picking out the bottom corner. Joe Willock, coming on as a substitute, added Newcastle's second goal. Liverpool's Cody Gakpo netted the first equaliser with a brilliant strike.

Newcastle's Amar Dedic made his first outing for the club after a £30m move from Benfica, while Lewis Miley returned from a broken leg. For Liverpool, Alexander Isak was booed on his return to St James' Park following his £125m move last summer.
