The death toll from a school shooting in Thailand has risen to nine after a 12-year-old girl, who had been treated for critical wounds, died on Saturday. Police at Plai Bang Police Station in Nonthaburi Province confirmed her death.
The incident occurred on Friday at the Debsirin Nonthaburi school, northwest of Bangkok. A 14-year-old boy allegedly shot his grandparents before killing more people at the school and then turning the gun on himself. More than 30 people were wounded in the shooting.
As of Saturday evening, 14 people remained in hospital, with seven in critical condition. Police are continuing their investigation, questioning witnesses including the suspect's parents. The suspected attacker reportedly fired at least 26 bullets from a gun belonging to his grandfather and was found with 34 additional ammunition rounds.
Thailand's prime minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, has pledged to implement new gun laws, stating that only government officials on duty would be permitted to carry firearms. However, specific details regarding potential changes to gun ownership requirements were not provided.
