Tom Holland, who plays Peter Parker in the Spider-Man franchise, has stated that a version of the new film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, made to satisfy fan requests, was ultimately deemed unsuccessful by the creative team.
Holland, speaking at the film's premiere, revealed that multiple cuts of the movie were produced. One particular version incorporated feedback from various viewers, but when watched by Holland, the producers, and director Destin Daniel Cretton, they "hated it."
The actor commented that while it was "what the people were asking for," it "wasn't quite what we wanted as the creatives." He added that lessons were learned from the experience, noting that "a movie can change in a thousand different ways in the edit room."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Sadie Sink, is set to be released in cinemas on Friday, 31 July.
