Top Football Stars Remain Free Agents After Transfer Window Closes

Several high-profile players, including Paul Pogba and Karim Benzema, are currently without clubs after the summer transfer window shut on 31 August.

  • Paul Pogba, 33, is a free agent after Monaco terminated his contract last month.
  • Karim Benzema, 38, terminated his contract with Al-Hilal on 31 August.
  • Raheem Sterling, 31, was released by Feyenoord and is set to appear in court next month.

The summer transfer window has closed, but a host of well-known football players are still available to sign as free agents. Among them is former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, 33, whose contract with Monaco was terminated last month, one year early, following a series of injuries.

French striker Karim Benzema, 38, also finds himself without a club after terminating his contract with Al-Hilal on 31 August, just six months after joining. The Ballon d'Or winner had made three appearances for Al-Hilal this season.

Other notable free agents include Riyad Mahrez, 35, who had his contract terminated in the Saudi Pro League, and Raheem Sterling, 31, released by Feyenoord after just three months. Sterling is scheduled to appear in court next month to face dangerous driving charges.

Dani Carvajal, 34, a long-serving Real Madrid right-back, has been a free agent since June, while Jamie Vardy, 39, is without a club after leaving Cremonese. David Alaba, 34, and Sergio Ramos, 40, are also among the experienced players currently unattached.
