A recent journey from London to the Cotswolds, undertaken solely by local bus networks, took four days to complete. The trip highlighted aspects of 'slow travel' and local community life.

  • The journey from London to the Cotswolds by local bus took four days.
  • The traveller used four buses and five hours to leave the M25 area from London.
  • Rural bus services in some areas, such as Blockley, may not operate on Sundays.

A traveller recently completed a four-day journey from London to the Cotswolds using only local bus services. The trip, which began in London, involved multiple bus changes and aimed to explore the UK's local transport networks.

The initial leg of the journey, from London to outside the M25, required four buses and took five hours. The traveller noted that this 'slow travel' approach allowed for unexpected interactions and stops in various towns and villages.

During the trip, the traveller visited locations such as Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Bibury. In West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, a pub with gravity-fed ales served at room temperature was discovered. The journey also highlighted the role of pubs as community hubs in many villages.

While generally positive, the experience also revealed challenges, such as the absence of Sunday bus services in Blockley, which extended a planned one-night stay to two nights. Single bus fares were subject to a national cap of £3.

What this means for you: If planning a similar multi-day bus journey, be aware that rural bus services may have limited or no operations on Sundays, potentially affecting travel schedules.
