Opening statements in the trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, are scheduled to begin on Monday, 18 August 2026, in Las Vegas. Davis is facing trial for the murder of rap star Tupac Shakur, who was shot in a drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas strip in September 1996 and died days later.
Prosecutors allege that Davis, a former gang leader, orchestrated the attack and provided the murder weapon, though they do not accuse him of firing the shots. Davis has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
The prosecution's case is expected to rely on Davis's 2019 memoir, titled Compton Street Legend, in which he described himself as one of the last surviving eyewitnesses to the shooting. Davis's defence attorneys sought to have the book ruled inadmissible, arguing that details were exaggerated, but a Nevada judge denied the request. Prosecutors are also expected to present evidence from interviews Davis gave to law enforcement officials in 2008 and 2009.
The trial is anticipated to last four weeks. If convicted, Davis could face life in prison without parole.
