US President Donald Trump has denied media reports suggesting he offered Iran sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds in return for "concrete" steps regarding its nuclear programme. On Monday, Trump stated on Truth Social, "This is untrue. I offered them NOTHING."
Axios and CNN had both reported, citing unidentified US officials, that such an offer was on the table as part of a final deal. This comes amidst a renewed effort to end the seven-month war, with US and Iranian officials reportedly speaking separately with mediators on Monday.
In response to Trump's statements, Iran's Revolutionary Guards called him a "big liar." Spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi said, "The enemy (US) knows that Iran is not after nuclear weapons," adding that their issue is with Iran's "vastness." Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in an interview with CBS's Face the Nation, affirmed Tehran's readiness for talks on its nuclear programme and other issues, but stressed it would not accept "bullying or coercion."
