Uefa, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have accused Fifa president Gianni Infantino of "deception" and abandoning his duty to the footballing world. The three confederations, representing over half of Fifa's members, are campaigning for Infantino's resignation, hoping he will step down rather than seek a third term.
In an open letter, signed by Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin, Concacaf counterpart Victor Montagliani, and the AFC's Salman Bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, they stated that the integrity of the game is at stake. They are calling for an independent review into Infantino's attempt to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors, arguing that Fifa cannot be trusted to review its own actions.
The confederations have also begun preliminary discussions about potentially organising their own competitions. This move could occur if they boycott Fifa events due to the ongoing crisis, which stems from Infantino's attempt to sell a share of commercial rights.
Fifa, in a statement on Saturday, said there is a "concerted and ongoing effort by some to undermine Fifa and its president." Meanwhile, some football associations, including Argentina, Morocco, and Mexico, along with the African Football Confederation, have backed Infantino.
