The UK, Canada, France, and nine other European nations have confirmed their intention to introduce national and/or support European restrictions on trade in goods with Israeli settlements. This joint statement from the foreign ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the UK was issued today, 8 September 2026.
The UK, France, and Canada specifically stated they will bring forward national measures to ban trade in settlement goods. The nations involved are also actively considering these and other measures, in accordance with their national procedures.
The statement asserts that the Government of Israel’s actions in the West Bank are undermining the possibility of a two-state solution. It highlights rapidly deteriorating conditions due to settler violence and settlement expansion, including the decision to publish tenders for the E1 settlement project.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have agreed on the need to take action to prevent further damage. The foreign ministers reiterated their commitment to a two-state solution and called on the Government of Israel to halt settlement expansion, ensure accountability for settler violence, and investigate allegations against Israeli forces.
