UK expresses concern over human rights in Central African Republic

The United Kingdom has voiced concerns regarding ongoing human rights violations and insecurity in parts of the Central African Republic, despite acknowledging progress in democratic institutions.

The United Kingdom has expressed ongoing concerns about human rights violations and insecurity in parts of the Central African Republic (CAR). This statement was delivered at the 63rd Human Rights Council in Geneva today, 2 October 2026.

While acknowledging progress in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting stability since the 2025 elections, the UK highlighted the impact of insecurity on civilians' access to justice and basic services. Concerns were also raised regarding reports of restrictions on civic space and the vulnerability of women, children, and displaced communities.

The UK supports efforts to strengthen accountability, uphold the rule of law, and promote inclusive political dialogue. It also recognised the role of MINUSCA in protecting civilians and supporting long-term peace and stability. The UK emphasised that sustained implementation of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation, along with progress on disarmament, reconciliation, and accountability, is essential for lasting peace and human rights protection.
