British businesses are receiving government backing as they pursue an estimated £33bn in contracts for the upcoming Fifa World Cup in Morocco. The Foreign Office aims to assist British firms in securing a share of the construction and related projects.

The next tournament, co-hosted by Portugal, Spain, and Morocco, will feature a new 115,000-capacity Grand Stade Hassan II stadium as a central project. Developments are also planned across Casablanca, Marrakech, and Rabat in sectors including aviation, transport, security, and professional services.

Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty stated that UK companies possess the expertise Morocco requires for a world-class tournament, from stadium design to transport systems. He added that the Foreign Office will continue to facilitate opportunities for British firms to win contracts, supporting jobs, growth, and investment in the UK.

The UK's current trade with Morocco is valued at nearly £5bn. The Foreign Office plans to support British businesses through ministerial engagements, trade missions, and diplomatic assistance. London-headquartered Steer Group has already provided expertise on crowd-modelling, while Haydock-based ATG Access is exploring contributions to transport hubs and crowd safety.
