  • The UK recognises concerns raised by WTO members, including capacity constraints.
  • 26.6% of the time available before the MC15 ministerial meeting has elapsed.
  • The UK is committed to an inclusive reform process and constructive engagement.

The United Kingdom has highlighted the pressing need for progress in World Trade Organisation (WTO) reform, stating that 26.6% of the time before the MC15 ministerial meeting has already passed. Kumar Iyer, the UK Ambassador to the WTO, delivered this message at the General Council meeting held from 5-6 October 2026 in Geneva.

The UK acknowledged concerns from other members, including capacity limitations and the need for the reform process to offer value to all participants. Despite this, the UK remains hopeful due to progress in some plenary sessions and is ready to engage with all members to achieve meaningful advancements.

Ambassador Iyer emphasised that inaction carries a considerable cost, as indicated by the World Trade Report. Ministers at MC15 will assess whether significant progress has been made on issues outlined in the Yaoundé document.
