At least 13 people have been killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on the Russian republic of Tatarstan, according to officials. Russian authorities stated that one child was among the victims, with 39 more people injured in the attack on Nizhnekamsk.
The city of Nizhnekamsk is located over 1,100 kilometres (680m) from the Ukrainian border and contains several major oil refineries and a large petrochemical company. Moscow confirmed that both industrial facilities and residential areas were targeted during the strike, which reportedly lasted several hours overnight and into the morning.
Kyiv has not yet commented on the attack. The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, confirmed the strike and offered condolences to the families of the deceased. A period of mourning has been declared in Tatarstan.
