Verdict expected in Mexico trial over surfers' alleged murders

A Mexican judge is anticipated to deliver a verdict today in the murder trial of three men accused of killing two Australian surfers and their American friend in 2024.

A Mexican judge is expected to announce a verdict today, Thursday 8 October 2026, in the murder trial of three men accused of killing two Australian surfers and their American friend. The trial, which began on 8 September, concerns the deaths of Australian brothers Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, and their friend Carter Rhoad, 30.

The trio were on a surfing trip to Mexico’s Pacific coast in April 2024 when they were allegedly shot dead in Baja California state during an alleged robbery. Their bodies were later found in a clifftop shaft with gunshot wounds to their heads.

The prosecution is seeking 150 years in prison for each of the accused. Martin and Debra Robinson, the parents of the brothers, are expected to address the court. Carter Rhoad's mother, Page, and his widow, Natalie Weirtz, are also expected to participate in the hearing via video call.
