A 102-year-old former RAF serviceman has returned to the base where he served over eight decades ago, marking a remarkable milestone in his life. Casey Bukowski's visit to RAF Ridgewell in Essex marked a poignant reunion with the place where he spent a significant part of his life in the Royal Air Force. Bukowski served at the base from 1943 to 1945, during World War II.
Today, Bukowski is one of the oldest living veterans of the war, and his remarkable life story is a testament to his dedication and service to the country. His visit to RAF Ridgewell was organised by the organisation, Help for Heroes, which supports wounded veterans and their families. Bukowski was joined by representatives from the organisation and other dignitaries on his visit.
Bukowski's family has expressed their gratitude to Help for Heroes for making this special day possible. His great-niece, Rachel, said: 'We are incredibly grateful to Help for Heroes for giving our Great-Uncle Casey this wonderful opportunity to revisit a place that holds so many special memories for him.' Bukowski's visit is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans during World War II and the ongoing support that they receive from organisations like Help for Heroes.
