  • Club owner Matt Ellis said the team's revolution has arrived two years ahead of schedule.

Wakefield Trinity coach Daryl Powell has told his players that a victory over Warrington in Saturday's Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford will secure their place as 'instant club legends'. The club's semi-final win against Wigan has brought them within 80 minutes of ending over half a century without a major title.

Powell, who coached Castleford to Old Trafford in 2017, was drawn to Trinity in 2023 following their relegation. Backed by new millionaire owner Matt Ellis, Powell initiated a five-year plan to return the club to the top of the domestic game. Ellis expressed surprise that this revolution has arrived two years ahead of schedule.

The team has been built with experienced players like Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeeken, alongside overseas talents such as Caius Faatili, Caleb Hamlin Uele, and Jazz Tevaga. Powell, 61, aims to secure the one major domestic honour that has eluded him, with his attack-minded approach expected to draw a crowd of over 70,000 to Old Trafford for the first time since 2017.
