Wales aim to build on Norway win in Nations League A clash with Denmark

Wales are set to face Denmark in Cardiff, aiming to prove they can thrive in Nations League A after securing their first top-tier victory against Norway.

  • Wales ended a six-game winless run with a 2-1 victory over Norway.
  • Captain Ben Davies believes the Norway win showed Wales belong in Nations League A.
  • Wales will be without several injured players, including Karl Darlow and Harry Wilson, for the Denmark match.

Wales are preparing to face Denmark in Cardiff on Sunday, driven by a determination to prove their capabilities in Nations League A. This follows their recent 2-1 victory over Norway, which marked their first-ever win in the competition's top tier and ended a six-game winless streak.

Wales captain Ben Davies stated that the team does not want to feel like they are not competing against bigger teams. He added that the performance against Norway laid a good marker to show they belong at this level and hopes they can replicate that against Denmark.

The win against Norway, which saw Wales come from behind, eased pressure after a run of results that included a World Cup play-off semi-final defeat and successive losses to Romania, Portugal, and Denmark. Wales' cause was aided by a red card for Norway defender Torbjorn Heggem in the second half, though they had troubled the World Cup quarter-finalists before then.

Manager Craig Bellamy will reportedly make changes to the side that played on Thursday, as Wales seek to make amends for a defeat in Denmark last Sunday. Wales will be without several players due to injury, including Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Dylan Lawlor, David Brooks, and Harry Wilson.

Davies hopes that playing at Cardiff City Stadium will be a key factor against Denmark, who are 17 places above Wales in the Fifa rankings. He noted the difference home advantage made against Norway compared to their away game in Denmark.

Why this matters: A strong performance against Denmark could solidify Wales' position and confidence in Nations League A, demonstrating their ability to compete at the highest level of international football.
