Wales captain Ben Davies has joined the Football Association of Wales (FAW) council, becoming one of eight new appointments. The 32-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender, who has a degree in business and economics, passed a century of caps for Wales in October 2025.

The FAW stated these new appointments mark "another significant milestone" in the delivery of its 'Together Stronger for the Future' reform. FAW chief executive Noel Mooney commented that the ambition of their governance reforms was to ensure the people shaping Welsh football better reflect the game today.

Among the other new council members are former Bristol City head coach Lauren Smith, currently an assistant at Manchester City, and Cardiff Draconians manager Nana Baah, who join as coaching representatives. Charl Galloway, co-founder of the Her Game Too Training Centre, also joins as a player representative alongside Davies. Dr Penny Miles and Gareth Watts will reflect supporters' views, while Eleeza Khan and Begw Elain have been named as youth council representatives.

Why this matters: The appointments aim to ensure the FAW council better reflects the diverse aspects of Welsh football, from elite players to grassroots and supporters.
